The man i'm seeing is very bruised from a past relationship...?

we've been seeing each other for almost a year now..we fight a lot at the start bec he's always absent-minded, very into working & a lot of stuff(fighting off a custody over daughter with his ex-gf), we don't see each other exclusively but he'd said he doesn't wanna share me with anyone else... i met his parents very casually two months into the relationship... then after he almost "lost" me a month ago(i met a nice guy but i'm still in luv with him) he one day surprised me & brought me over to have lunch at his parents' house with his daughter.. then left me to chat with his nice mom...i was also surprised that mom knew things abt me...i was so freakin' nervous!...he'd see me more often these days & he'd tell me he loves me but he can be very detached...quiet... i love him.. don't know if i'd still give him more time? will he eventually fall completely in love with me? signs he gives are very confusing.
